Timber for Wall Plate

Hi

I am about the complete the cavity walls for my house extenstion and currently preparing to install wall plates on the blockwork inner skin.

I wonder if there is a specific type of timber required for wall plates? Any advise would be very much appreciated.

LOL, not trying to confuse but both are standard size. We tend to use a thickness which is best suited to our design.
