Hi

My friend is building his extension using an insulated 4x2 framework with a shallow pitched tiled roof above. There are only going to be 2 openings - 1 for a pair of French doors and the other for a window.

Above these he is going to use doubled up 8x2s on their sides for the lintels. The longest span will be approx 1800mm.

Will building control want to see some calcs for these timber lintels as its only a small domestic project?

Thanks

No calcs should be required if there is a standard uniform load from the roof above

A better solution would be a timber box beam of 4x2 with 12mm ply as this could then be insulated to the same as the rest of the frame

.....Forgot to ask, what's the best way of tying the new timber framing to the existing brick wall?

Thanks

Hammer fix, frame anchors, expansive bolts etc.

Nothing special.

Don't forget the vDPC
