I'm after a timed FCU, to power an electric heated towel rail. The heating element and rail is already installed, along with the wiring to an adjacent cupboard.

Every timer I can see, and there only appear to be a couple on the market, have rubbish reviews, and seem to fail very quickly. Anyone found a good reliable one?

Timeguard any good? Just had a look and reviews seem ok. You can’t always trust reviews either as you couldn’t get a good egg or a bad egg. What wattage is the heating element? Perhaps you could wire in a heating time switch, or a higher rated mechanical time switch in series?

I've never used it but Drayton Wiser have a product exactly for this purpose - not with a physical timer onboard, but designed to connect to a smart system, e.g. the Wiser home hub.

Edit: I think you would need a Wiser hub (i.e. heating/HW programmer for boiler) with it, it wouldn't function on its own.

I use a Meross smart plug to control a towel radiator, outside the room, of course. But any similar smart switch control will work whatever the brand.

That's what I'd fit in your adjacent cupboard. 13A socket and towel rail wired into a fused plug into the smart switch.
