Timer on Immersion Heater

My electric immersion heater is timed to come on 2 times a day. The timer has a circular clock dial with an inner ring (on) and outer ring (off) into which you insert small pins to indicate when you want the water to come on and go off. There is also a small light on the top left hand side which I guess should come on when the heater is switched on. However, when the clock reaches the pin to switch the heater on, the light comes on for just 1/10 of a second and then goes off. The water does not heat up.
Any ideas?
Thanks, Larry

Its sounds like its knackered.
These usually switch by microswitch and they wear out.
Replace it with a nice digital one, easier to program and more choices.
