Petrol presumably. Age and power?

There are quite a few engines around that have changed from one to the other, and or, use both a chain and belt. And obviously, chains and guides can also fail...

Many years ago timing chains used to last the life of the car but that was because the average car ended up in the scrap yard at about 60,000 miles, now they can do several hundred thousand, sadly chains need changing as well.
