I have some work to do at my local social club and am not 100% on something. I have to remove a wooden partition wall to gain an extra 4ft on a room. The wall is the support for the end of the roof supports. The roof span is 7m from side to side and the main supports are made up of timber joists. They have 2" x 2" timber top and bottom and 12mm ply either side. They are about 18" high so are most probably pretty strong. I have seen this type of support before but never had to do any work on them. As the wall is being moved, the new wall will be 4ft away and is brick construction i need to somehow extend the supports. How can this be done ?? Can i make up the same type of joist and join the two together with steel plates or something ?? or is it a total new support ?? any help would be great. The roof is only t & g cladding with felt covering so no major weight above.
