Toilet cistern not refilling properly

The toilet has suddenly stopped refilling, but water is spraying from the plastic at a very high pressure, creating a fine mist so it would probably fill up eventually!

When I lifted up the lever then the spraying stopped so I have filled up the cistern with a bucket for now.

Any advice would be gratefully received.

Thanks
Paul

turn off water to cistern strip and check internals of ball cock either blocked (fix it) or knackered (renew it)

I presume you have a Siamp float valve?

If so the diaphragm will have a tiny split, you can get new ones from http://www.lunns.net/cisternspares/
