The valve is a bottom-entry Torbeck, like this: https://www.screwfix.com/p/torbeck-bottom-entry-fill-valve-1-2-/8120t
We recently had our system changed from attic tank / gravity fed to mains pressure everywhere, which is apparently around 3 bar.
The toilet fill valve shutoff was previously OK, but now there's a single loud thump. The under floor pipework may not be well clipped, it's tricky to find out.
It's possible that it does not have the spiral flow restrictor thing fitted.
As a new valve is fairly inexpensive, what should I get? Hopefully still a fast fill and good switch-off but maybe less harsh.

I did exactly as you suggested. Screwfix no longer stock it, but Amazon do. Fitted the high pressure restrictor and new valve top onto the existing riser tube. Fits perfectly and cured the thump.
Have you got a link for that? I’ve had the same problem since going from gravity fed to mains. If it’s not a thump, it’s a screech as it’s coming to a stop. Had the problem for about 7 years and been thinking of changing it for the last six and a half years. :ROFLMAO:

Another option is to email [email protected] and ask them to send you an HP restrictor.

The new one gives a little "squeak" noise (only audible if you have the lid off), then a few drips, then stops.

Most people converting from Regular to Combi boiler will experience this as there are too many boiler slingers that don't even know about LP to HP cistern fill valve restrictors... Let alone think to replace them!
