Toilet flush button

Hi everyone,

I have had a problem arise with my toilet flush button.
It had started to stick on one side more than the other and my partner decided to push it to the point that it fell into the cistern at the top.
I took the top off looked at the button mechanism and put it back into the top.
Now however whenever you press the button it falls through into the cistern.
If you push the button without the lid on the toilet still flushes and re-fills fine.
What can i do to resolve this?

Its probably just one of the plastic retaining lugs having broken off......you may strike lucky at toiletspares.co.uk for a replacement button.
Failing that, it could need a new button complete with flush mechanism.
