Hopefully my last request for help here!!
For a while now the toilet handle does not seem to return properly.
from the handle, there is a lever and at the end of the lever there is a thick wire that hooks onto a piston.
This piston seems to be sticking. if you push the lever down its fine.
The handle itself was broken so I have just replaced it. I kept lever and wire.
Now, not only does the piston stick (most of the time) but when the lever is fully down the handle is level. But as the water level goes up so doe the piston, which has the effect of dropping down the handle.

To my thinking the wire is too long and needs shortening.
Would I be correct in that
Many Thanks

I did think that but I was also in the middle of other stuff so couldnt then get to the loo. Will try to upload some soon

If the piston is sticking, perhaps the lifting wire is not aligned correctly?
You should be able to shorten (or bend) the wire if necessary.

Usually called C links, can get varying sizes. As above photos would be better. I’d say the spring may have gone in th syphon

Thanks all I have attached some photos
photo 1 shows position after a fill.
What happens is:
I flush it and the handle doesnt really return properly, the piston sticks for a bit then drops flat, the handle is level.
As the cistern fills up the piston raises causing the handle to drop.

The spring not working on the syphon makes sense.
The toilet never seems to flush that brilliantly as it is.
Is the spring fixable (ie has it just become un hooked and need reconnecting? or is a replacement syphon needed?
I presume I can just replace the syphon on its own (or would I better changing the whole sytem?
many thanks

The white plastic bit isn't long enough, as above bend the wire a bit to suit. Take the plastic arm off and try turning it to the next position on the handle. You might not get it exactly the way you want it to sit. Lengthening or shortening the wire may help.

Ideally - At rest, the internal arm, wants to be level, or slightly pointing down. With the operating handle level, or pointing slightly up. The wire C's length should be adjusted to achieve that.

The best action, is with the C going vertically between the internal arm, and the flush, in mid-stroke - The C wire, can be bent in the middle a little, to achieve that alignment - rather than it being pulled to one side, as the handle it operated.

Country fan , I will have an investigate
One trick you could do is take the plastic arm off the handle and use that to pull up and release. If it’s still slow then it’s at the syphon, if it’s rapid then that’s fine and it’s likely the c link.
