Yesterday I noticed that a toilet was making much more noise than usual when it was filling, so I removed the lid. It has a Torbeck valve and the water, instead of filling the cistern via the long plastic tube, was coming straght out of the four small holes on one end of the top - see red arrow in this pic.

Does anyone know why it is happening and what the cure is?

theres a little flap that acts as a guide, its slipped out of place , if you prize end cap off you can put it back , should be trapped in place with cap. it will not stop the noise though. pm add ill send a new one

That's what I found when I took the valve apart.

Originally I thought it was a problem with the diaphragm, which had moved round so the plastic pin was no longer in the hole. Why did they get rid of the metal pin?

The noise is caused by the water coming out of the four holes in the end cap instead of going down the plastic filler tube and coming out under water.
