Why do all the non-Conservative voters care so much about the leader of the opposition?

Maybe they're ridiculing the scraping of the barrel is still bringing up the dross.
A Boris Johnson legacy, I believe.

Anyone remotely interested in politics will take interest in leadership contests for parties they don't support. If nothing else, it's not impossible the eventual winner could be our PM x years down the line.

It's the same with contests in other countries e.g. Trump vs Harris. The outcome there will have a bearing on our relationship with them.
