A Treasury spokesperson said: "These reports are speculation, not government policy. The independent Office for Budget Responsibility (OBR) will certify the costings of all measures announced at the Budget in the usual way."

Now why is that - no treasury official would make a statement such as the article suggests. However this is one of the things the treasury does for who ever is in power.

The governments goal was to raise taxes to pay for things, not export millionaires, with their taxes being paid (or not) in other countries.

Millionaires go wherever they can avoid taxes, not choose places to pay them.

Those that actually go, that is.

No there is a threshold of what people believe is fair and reasonable. Bankrupting your kids with inheritance tax leads people to take the necessary steps. Just as those sitting on large capital gains will be ready to restructure it.

It is of course easy to argue others should pay taxes that don’t apply to them.

ordinary working people pay income tax

rich people earn money by return on assets..........its perfectly acceptable for the tax rate to be the same
