Newgas,
Some rather obtuse questions without much information:

is there a way of speeding up downloading ?.

It would help if you told us what OS (Vista or XP) and also what browser you use:

http://www.google.co.uk/search?hl=en&rlz=1G1GGLQ_ENUK279&q=speeding+up+downloading&btnG=Search&meta=

what are tracker's in the and properties can we use our own tracker's?.

What and where are you 'finding' trackers?

also what does hash fail mean will it not download the item etc.or is it nothing?

Where and when do you get a message saying 'Hash failed' ?

apologies for all the questions but am still learning to walk ;)

Please don't apologise. as we all have to learn some time but tell us a bit more info, thanks.

i am using vista and int. explorer, i am downloading blue planet on u torrent.

the tracker can be located on the u torrent download window and the properties .

but if you hav'nt heard of the tracker then it wont be important

the hash fails came up on same window in logger section i thought they might affect the downloads maybe i'm totally wrong.

will bit torrent be usefull with the u torrent i'm using?

i.m on BT broadband and i would have thought you couldnt get any faster but from what people say it is possible but how? :D

Torrents are crap

You need to find the item on a hosting site such as Rapidshare or MegaUpload - you can download for free at a reduced speed (but still faster than torrent, or you can subscribe and download at your maximum line speed

What Blue Planet episode do you want. I have the rapidshare links but they are 700mb split into 8 zip files. Blue Planet is 10 episodes/CD's too

i'v used torrents for a few films and cartoons etc and it seems ok, at certain times it speeds up and then slows down at other times.

at the moment i'm downloading the whole series of blue planet and have just done planet earth that took about day an half.

i' down to 0.1kb sometimes so it is taking a while.

i'm also downloading my old fav. tintin the whole collection :D

Depends on what your using. In bittorrent you need to find a well seeded file make sure you've encrypted the download, port forward on your router if needed and possibly limiting the upload speed.

A BitTorrent tracker is a server that assists in the communication between peers using the BitTorrent protocol. It is also, in the absence of extensions to the original protocol, the only major critical point, as clients are required to communicate with the tracker to initiate downloads. Clients that have already begun downloading also communicate with the tracker periodically to negotiate with newer peers and provide statistics; however, after the initial reception of peer data, peer communication can continue without a tracker. (From wikipedia)

The hash check fail means that the piece was rejected for being inexact, so you lose that data, but it's better than having and sharing corrupted files.

@ woody those sites are full of fakes and are a pain in the arse to find what you want.

@ woody those sites are full of fakes and are a pain in the a**e to find what you want.

Not if you join the right forums and get the right links ;)

I download at full 10 meg speed, no junk, no viruses

I found that it was torrents and emule/edonkey that was getting progressively crap, slow, fake files, and viruses.

Also use Internet Download Manager program to help with the downloads - scheduling, resuming, sorting etc

1. bandwith i'm on is set to high 2. upload is set to 10
3. download is set to unlimited 4. force started

i always try and go for good seeded ones.

question; do the stuff like download accelorater and ten way to speed up your download etc. really work or are they just gimick's?

torrent downloads are nearly always governed by the seeds and other clients.

Also, IIRC some torrent clients will give a lower priority to feeds from client software from other developers - I used to notice this with utorrent

Yes you can fine tune the client to tell it what connection you have and how many seeds you want to connect to etc, but once you've done that, then that is all you can do

Get on to google and find out which client is giving best speeds and most connections - read some reviews. And then use that client

Download accelerators only work with web pages by pre-caching links and compressing images. They don't work with peer-to-peer links such as torrents

Torrents are crap

There are hundreds of millions of people who would disagree with that.

For torrent advice go here - http://torrentfreak.com/optimize-your-bittorrent-download-speed/

You should also load and update "peerguardian2" before connecting to a torrent site - http://phoenixlabs.org/pg2/

If you want to download movies etc you will probably need a codec pack to view them - http://www.free-codecs.com/download/K_lite_codec_pack.htm
Lots of people who think torrents are crap don't have the correct codecs. :)

Well if all these hundreds of millions of people define "not crap" as waiting days for a file which can be got in a few minutes, then that's up to them. And when they finally get the file to find its a fake or a porn movie, then I am sure they are very pleased

And when the IP's start to filter peer to peer traffic to give it low priority, then I suppose this will be even less crap?
