Well I have to say that I don't agree with you there - nothing has been changed on this boiler for the nine years it has been in service!

Whilst I am grateful for pointers from everyone, it seems that if I changed everything, then any problem would be solved!

If I did change everything it would be cheaper to buy a complete new oil burner unit for around £400.

However it does seem to be starting and running fine with adjustment of the electrodes.

You could have spent £400 on a new burner, but it wouldn't put the problem right if it were to do with the oil line or something remote from the burner tho would it?!!

All we can do on this sort of post is make suggestions, however i'm glad your electrode adjustment seems to be doing the trick ;)

Indeed Boilerman2 - and I am grateful for the time guys have taken to to post and the suggestions they have made.

BTW, I had checked the oil flow up to the pump, as I mentioned in an earlier post, so I knew that was ok.

As slapper said in an earlier post, this was the kind of fault that gets engineers pulling their hair out.

Unsteady oil pressure signifies a failing pump.
An eight year old nozzle? you must be joking. Chances are that it is worn and not atomising properly. Also there is not a nozzle manufacturer that recommends cleaning a nozzle, except for the filter. They are a precision component. OFTEC service schedule requires annual change, and whilst I don't change that often in every circumstance, I never leave one for more than a couple of years.
