'Triangular' wall under staircase

Just this morning I noticed that (as you look side on) to the stair case this small triangular solid wall has moved back almost an inch.

Not sure why it has moved, I think its been built on top of floorboards.
Is it loadbearing? Could I just remove it and rebuild a stud wall?

I'm assuming stairs are supported top and bottom and don't need any support in the middle.
