Festive greetings to all!

I've got one of the above 9.5Kw showers that decided to stop working the other day. The shower was unable to achieve a temp greater than 30 degrees - not incredibly hot. Normally on full power, the minimum temp is 38 degrees upwards.

Isolated and cracked the cover off to have a look. All the connectors were nice and tight and checked the resistance of the can - seemed to be within range of other posts on the net (didn't write them down).

Tried to pull the scale trap (hard water area) and it was well and truly stuck! Eventually managed to make it twist round, but can't pull it out......anyone got any ideas?

Put it all back together in the meantime and it only bloody worked, so I might have freed up the flow somehow (likely?).

It's only a matter of time before it goes again.....any ideas on how to get this out? What would you do?

once you remove the centre screw it should pull out.
it's more likely the rubber seal holding it in.
useally a slight lever with a screwdriver will free it.

just be careful you don't break the o ring seals.

also good idea to clean the inlet fiter at the same time.

I took the screw out, that came out without any problem. It's awkward getting a screwdriver there to get leverage, but I'll give it a go tommorrow when it's light again - gives the missis to get one more use out of it first.

Is the scale trap like a mesh basket? Is it possible twisting it around has let the water flow better?

My getout plan was to replace it with another unit. When I brought it, it cost 120 quid. Looked today and it has gone up to 230!!! How does that work?!?!?!

poss twisting has helped, you can twist it to free it and pull at the same time.
best if you can put abit of vasaline/silicone grease on the seals when replacing.

you should really flush it out before refitting top.

they are quite a dear shower but i hate them as they are a bugger for diagnosing faults on.

Cheers for the offer, but I got the destructions off a website - unless there are different manuals (installer/user)?

I saw a part in the manual about flushing when the scale trap is removed by applying power without the control panel being connected. I installed it years ago and have a vague memory about flushing during the commissioning process the same way.

I'll have to start another thread after Crimble. I'm going to be doing my second bathroom and need to choose another shower. I thought I had it straight which kind, but then come across conflicting info (on the Internet, imagine that!!). I respect the oppinion of those that have to deal with them on a regular basis and would be interested in what you think.

Apologies to drag this back up, but thought I'd say it was finally fixed - Cheers Seco!

Used a flat blade screwdriver and carefully eased the filter out. Was full of scale and crap. Cleared it all out, flushed the shower (as per manual) and put it all back together.

Works like a charm again (well, as good as an electric shower can with near freezing water coming out the pipes).
