True with your life on the line you want this ambulance driver

Are you sure he wasn't a taxi driver? I thought I saw the same hotel 3 times there.:LOL:
Anyway, the way he was driving every one else's life was on the line.

Our emergency services have a "drive to arrive" policy in place, so drive according to the conditions. I wouldn't want my young labourer to drive me to a hospital or some lunatic maverick.

OMG, he's on the wrong side of the road all the way, and he's undertaking, not overtaking!

It is in country that drives on the right hand side of the road so (s)he is overtaking for almost all of the run.

An emergency vehicle on blues and twos is entitled to under take with caution when this is necessary to make good progress.

The driving is not that bad. The driver has far wider vision than the camera and has correctly anticipated the actions of other drivers to the approaching ambulance and aimed for the gaps being created by those drivers.

Equally important as urgency is a smooth run making it easier and safer for the attendant / paramedic in the back to continue treating a casualty

As an Ex Fire Appliance driver, IMO his driving was nothing short of Dangerous, he does not allow for what other drivers are likely to do on hearing the sirens,( or not hearing the sirens, i.e in car stereo) ) does not proceed with caution at red traffic lights/ road junctions, pedestrian on crossing had to run to get out of his way, ( the pedestrian could have been blind/deaf or disabled)
The idea is to get to an Incident, with his style of driving he is unlikely to make it.

Just before I signed in I saw heraginn's post .....wrong again as usual:LOL:

Did you divest yourself of humour at the same time?

Some of the comments on the original Utube video are funny:
"Plot twist - the sirens are not coming from him but the vehicle behind him."

"That wasn't an ambulance, it's the new Domino's pizza delivery van, they're bringing back the "30 minutes or it's free" promo."

"Plot twist - the driver is actually lost"

Put yourself on the end of waiting for one of these guys, be they ambulance, fire or police, and the last thing on your mind is how they drive there. You just want them by your side as soon as possible.
I also think that anyone who fails to make way for these vehicles, for any reason within their control, they should be heavily fined and given points on their licence.

Especially the idiots who just stop regardless of their position in the road and whether the vehicle can get through.

My opinion was based on a couple of years ( 1990's ) as a volunteer trained driver for St John Ambulance that included a few blue light runs. As the trainer pointed out driving a van load of police officers is very different to driving a van with a casualty being worked on in the back. Driving a fire engine with a tank of water sloshing around the baffles is a third style of driving.

And yes the drivers who freeze when they hear / see a blue light were ( still are ) a big hazard to making progress.

The video is not in the UK and might be Germany where the driving test included questions about how to react to an emergency vehicle.

If the ambulance is going to a RTI they will have to wait for the Police to control the Traffic so it is not a danger to the Ambulance Personnel, plus if People are trapped in the Vehicle they will have to wait for the Fire Service to make safe and extricate the causalities, (same with any other Emergency)
