I thought Vance was egging Trump on and really showed himself up. Zelensky couldn't get a word in edgeways. Telling him to thank them was too much to listen to.

Putin (and most other world leaders) knows that America can't be trusted either.
Trump knows that everyone knows that America can't be trusted.

Neither have a good track record where honourability is concerned.

Saying such things openly, as a guest in the oval office in front of the world's media when you're hoping for a deal that could save your country from not existing anymore, really isn't the smart thing to do.
One thing is becoming ever clearer to me. The EU/UK need to get tooled up to the eyeballs so that we are, collectively, a military force to be reckoned with.
We need to make ourselves a powerful enough unit on the world stage (I mean EU & UK combined) so if asked in the future 'could you take on Russia yourself?' we can comfortably answer 'yes'.
America revels in the fact it has the power and is seen as the leader of the free world. Maybe that narrative needs changing, and perhaps Trump, Vance etc are knowingly or otherwise helping achieve just that.
