People are getting me wrong - I am not coming at this from an angle of defending trump and I know I wont have a copper here if I need one cause they are in Scotland but how do people come up with £5m cost to tax payers

Where is the extra cost over and above their wages that you have to pay them anyway. Fuel for transport, overtime pay, do they stay overnight in hotels.

Some of this makes me laugh re Trump's visit. Folk were interviewed saying Scotland should have refused to let him visit and First Minister Swinney should be refusing to meet with him.

Aye, whatever.

However, I do think it's good we live in a country where folk can say such things and/or protest, regardless of how effective such actions are.

It is a bit surreal that Turnberry, with its population of ~200, is seeing all this going on.

He has gone to Scotland to visit both of his golf courses and meet Starmer followed by Swinney. That's all his staff have shared as his visit has been classed a private and time off from The White House.

Football clubs are private enterprises. This is money being spent by the state on activities of the state. For me, it depends whether the police would have already been working that day somewhere else if they weren't doing this. Also, whether Scotland has to reimburse England for the police they send.

Police charge for all sorts of things outside their normal policing duties including to Government agencies and other Governments.. I don't think security for a president is covered by normal duties.
