Tumble dryer and washing machine warning after blaze but I regularly set the timer on my washing machine, tumble drier and dishwasher to take advantage of off-peak if we should not use them unattended, then why fit delay start timers?

These appliances contain powerful motors with fast-moving parts that get very hot," it said.
so fit an over temp fuse or switch, not sure motors should get hot anyway.

or put in items that have been used to soak up flammable liquids such as cooking oil.
Yes, have seen reports on how oil can react, but the report is ignored as it starts by starting daft things. To say do not tumble dry clothes which have not been washed first makes a lot of sense, but in real terms, with a heat pump drier, I think the chance of a fire is about the same as having loss of PEN?

incompatible clothing
This has been pointed out in the past, where clothing has had oil on with causing a fire, I can't remember the full details, but clothing which has not been washed should not be dried.

These are cheap enough, so one would expect them to be fitted to stop any over heating, I can't see how any washing machine fault unless a design fault, could cause a fire, together with overloads all should be protected. The drier, including washer/drier, yes there could well be a fault, like lint catchers not being cleaned.

But today there are no elements which can get hot spots, the use of refrigerant to heat and cool the unit, means no hot spots, it is after all the same technology as a fridge or freezer, or heat pump central heating, and no one would tell you to turn off the freezer, or central heating at night.

If it had said, "Don't turn your non heat pump tumble dryers on before you leave the house or go to bed. These appliances contain parts that get very hot." then one could accept this as a valid warning. And my non heat pump drier (vented) and Washer/drier (condenser) do not have a delay timer to allow them to use off-peak electricity. And it may get people to select better quality driers.

Mrs Mottie is fanatical about not putting the washing machine or dishwasher on when we are not in the house. I’m not so fanatical but if she’s at work and I go out, I won’t put them on if the dog is left indoors!

I do not use a Tumble Dryer
but
I just use a Washing Machine.

I regularly set the Washing Machine to wash in the early hours of the morning and then "hang-out" the washing (in the bright Australian sunlight,) after I get-up!

No problems, after about 40 years!

This may be the problem? 1740910639285.png

The cream I use to treat my legs, can catch fire and if any clothing or bedding was dried without washing first, then it could catch fire. But need to warn people of this problem, not lump it together with a load of nonsense.
