We are looking at using varying sizes of tumbled stone in our bathroom (10x10 for the floor, and 4x4 and 4x2 for the walls and shower area.) Tumbled stone looks VERY porous... there are dozens of "holes" and cracks in the tiles (which *are* part of the look). However is this even a prcatical option in a room that is consistently wet? Even with proper sealent, is this going to be a headche to clean, or reseal constantly? Is it worth it?

I have only fitted tumbled marble to walls (not within showers) applied sealer before grouting no problems. The surface of the marble was quite smooth with no pitting the "tumbling" was just around the edges.

Here's a pic of some 4" marble with 2" glass I did a few months ago, 800 of each in a downstairs loo, drove me mad.

These tiles require a lot of TLC.

They are expensive (£65+m) and problems can occur with blooming especially if you live in a hard water area. A client of mine installed a water softener to counter this but that just adds to the expense.

Grouting is a pain too with all those holes to fill.

Saying that they do look great though. Maybe seach out look-a-like ceramic tiles, loads cheaper, no cleaning hassles and virtually identical from a foot away. I have just used them in my bathroom and I am very pleased with them.
