I have accidentally cut through the tv aerial cable outside the house. I was going to buy a fitting and join the two pieces together, but am wondering how best to splice the cables. It doesn't look that straightforward. Any ideas where I could find a 'how to' guide?

Cheers

tv aeial cable is coax, get the"kit" first.

you basicaly strip the cable (assuming you have a bit of slack) fit the connections join them together

I would look to renew the cable personally, or turn the aerial end into the loft, and run a new length from loft to TV, joining there. Use 2 'F' connectors and an 'F' Connector coupler. If outside, use self amalgamating tape to waterproof if outdoors.

you will need some slack to be able to join...
