TV display from computer?

I have an Acer modern computer with HDMI output for a monitor etc.

When I connect to the 46" 1081line TV it significantly overscans and loses an icon or so all round.

The TV setting of auto seems to work well on all TV sources and my Sony HD video as well.

Any suggestions on setting the TV (?) to more correctly display the computer output?

I think you have to change the settings on the computer, to match that of the monitor (tv).
control panel>display>settings

Can you describe exactly what you are doing when you get this problem

Please state all the steps you do as this could be a clue as to why its going the way it is

I leave it exactly as it came and it works fine at 1081 lines from the HDMI into the 23" widescreen monitor.

Put the HDMI into the TV withoug changing anything and its so seriously over scanning.

TV is a Sharp 46" LCD.

Set the display to only show on your TV the try to change the resolution

Check the refresh rate as well as the resolution.
