What recommendation code have they allocated RF? and is the T/E in a visually ok state (no cracking / dis-colouration present) Is it on an south facing wall with open carpark in front with lots of sun, or is it down a dark little passage with very little sun?

One school or thought is that you have presumably been requested to price remedials off the PIR, rather than critique it, assuming therefore that it is not as vague as to make such a task impossible, then you could simply give them a price for re-wiring in MICC and move onto the next item.

We have always, and still do, used Grey/****** PVC singles of exactly the type used country wide for meter tails. No special types or special designs.

Actually, my typing fingers disobeyed my brain - what I meant to type was brown (not black) - which is the colour of the sheath of my supply and all those around me. Mind you, it's pretty old - certainly well in excess of the ~30 years I have been here.

IME, usually not even that. There are certainly a good few who seem to 'believe' (for whatever reason - never seemingly stated) that there are instances of 'early serious deterioration'/'failure' of PVC cable used outdoors, but I don't recall having seen anyone back that up with even second-hand anecdotes, let alone any sort of 'chapter and verse'.

Ah, that stuff. The colour I think was mainly for aesthetic reasons though it is rather "stiffer" than grey sheathed
