Two browns and nothing else

Hi all

Just moved house and trying to take on alot of jobs myself this time round.

The bulb blew in the hall the other day, so went to change and found this - i will be changing the fitting at some point but dont know where to start as ive never seen this? Any help would be much appreciated ( no blue wire or earth as I can see)

Hopefully there will be a cnnector under the plate that will have brown blue and earth wires
 
Hi everyone,

Could I ask why have they wired it originally like ? (Pic) just so I know, and two am I ok to join live, natural and earth together and fit it in to the singles (pic)

Connect the blue to one of the blacks and the brown to the other black....

One is live and one is neutral you dont know which is which as it isn't marked but it doesnt matter.

Leave the 2 reds together as they are.

And obviously earth to earth.

No, take the 2 reds out and put them together in a separate connector.

Don't turn that on whatever you do.
 
That will work.
What you SHOULD be doing, is determining which of those two blacks is SWITCH LIVE and which is NEUTRAL.
Because by not finding out, you could be connecting to the neutral of the light to switch live; and the live of the light to neutral - which although not dangerous, is still not right.

Yes that'll do ya, too many wagos in there but it'll do the job.
 
Thanks everyone for your input, I must seem a right plonker!

I will fix it up tomorrow like advised, the block what came with it wouldn't keep the wires in, but will get it close as I can.
