two way switching with twin and earth

If one of your strapper connections has failed then the other switch will only work with the 'moved' switch in one position.

You need to check continuity of the strapper cable between switches:
  • Turn off the power.
  • Connect the red and black of the T & E together at one switch.
  • Using a multimeter or continuity tester, measure between red and black at the other switch.
  • If no continuity, one of your joints has failed.
  • (If you don't have a tester you need to get hold of one)

Sounds like it should work provided none of the joints have failed. As a stab in the dark i would guess that one of the strappers cables has failed somewhere along the line (the new joint possibly?). Do you have access to a continuity tester to verify these cables are not at fault?
