UFH controller

I have a Aube TH132F underfloor heating controller that notes my kitchen floor temperature as being 43C, which its not! the tiles are cold, not heated at all.
Could the controller be faulty? Is was only fitted 8 months ago.

I have another controller at the other end of the room, which has the temperature as being 19C. Which I would say is correct.

It may be the Floor thermostat

It may be the controller


Maybe yiu could swap over the controllers and see what readings you obtain

I will try that, would the controllers be wired in to the mains?

I dont know that particular make of controller, but typically they have 230volt Mains input plus outputs to 1. the heater mat
2. the thermostat

...all mains voltage..

Have swapped the controllers over and the high temperature one is still high.. it fact when i plugged it in the temperature increased as I watched it??
Would the sensor probe be in the floor right below the controller or would it be where the wire matting starts? I think the sensor probe might be right above where my hot water pipes are?

Before you go looking for the thermostat (should be in a tube burried in the floor).. get an Ohm meter and measure it's resistance... compare both of them (disconnected from the controller) IIRC it should be ITRO 16K ohms

Um, bit of a problem, the floor is tiled and there is no sign of where the thermostat could be?
Can one of those meters pick it up through 10mm tiles?

How can I when there is no sign of any wire? All the floor is tiled and the walls are plastered,

When you remove the controller there will be several wires..

L, N & E supply
L & N heating element

and then 2 wires which are the temperature sensor

remove these and then measure the resistance between them

do it on both controllers and compare the results IIRC they should give you readings of about 16K ohms

Just read back on your posts..

right, you have 2 controllers and mats

lets say controller A connected to mat 1 and controller B connected to mat 2

So controller A is showing 40 odd degrees and you swap them so A is now connected to 2 and B is connected to 1..

If controller A is still reading 40 odd degrees then it's faulty, however if controller B is now reading 40 odd degrees then it's probably the sensor

Whenever I install UFH I always put a galv box at low level with a blank over.. the sensor and mat cables come thorough this, the sensor then going into some 15mm polypipe so that it can be replaced easily

Off to b and q for me then, to buy a ohm reader?! Whats the "IIRC"?

And what happens if the termostat is faulty, is it a case of lifting the tiles?

IIRC - If I Remember Correctly!

If it's the thermostat and the installer has not left you an easy way to replace it then you will have to lift the tiles... being very careful not to damage the heating mat...

Or you might be able to switch the sensor into "air temperature" mode instead of probe!!
