But it needs at least the same amount of fuel (as well as years, decades, centuries...........) to slow down for its destination (y)
Far less as it happens. Again the rocket equation takes no prisoners.

You start with your payload, then work out how fast you want it to go. Then you work out how much fuel you need to decelerate from that speed.

Then you take that total mass and work out how much fuel is needed to boost that to the cruising speed. With speeds as high as we're taking about the payloads are rounding errors. Nearly all the energy is needed to move the fuel.

Why? Enormous distances are enormous distances, regardless. There is no magic potion to make them shorter.

Same physics.
no they are not the faster you travel the shorter the distances become . proven physics as you keep saying . Brain Cox explains it in simple terms

What a daft nonsense statement
Why?

"space is empty that's why we can see through it"
'Mostly' Correct.
. Are you 9 years old
I had you a bit younger than that.
80% of the universe is dark matter
Incorrect. Most of it is empty space.
Space is far from "empty"
It's not empty nor did anyone say it is. However, most of it is empty.

never heard of gravity of planets being used to speed up and slow down space craft without the need to burn masses of extra fuel
Look at how the fastest space craft we have got up to the speed of 450,000 miles per hour

Some, like Jimmy are adamant about how we will never be able to travel to the furthest reaches of the solar system, yet, that is based on known technologies.

In the future, we may very well find out that space travel to far distant galaxies is not done in s straight line! It may be possible that NHI's travel through different dimensions, folded space, portals etc etc....

This seems way out there but, these things are being talked about, discussed etc by science....

we will never be able to travel to the furthest reaches of the solar system
Correct. Each time one of you hopefuls attempts to suggest we can or will, then there will be a billion reasons why we can't. Ever.

Have any of you thought seriously about the distances involved? We just don't have that 'energy' here on Earth and NEVER will.

How am I supposed to know, I won't be the inventor of it but maybe someone will, neither of us know.

You know I already have invented hyper sleep, I call it a microwave bed where you get 8 hrs sleep in 10 mins. I could tweek it for years of sleep.
