Do you honestly believe it on these programmes when they pull someone picking up a suitcase full of cigs that its because they thought they looked suspisious.

No, it's usually because the case had been X-Rayed. Happened to me coming back from Prague 6 years ago, through Bristol Airport. Had 4000 Bensons in my suitcase that had been checked in as hold luggage. Out of all the people flowing through the green channel, they singled me out. Thought I would loose the lot, but they were satisfied that they were for my own use - partly true.
