Theoretically a population of whatever number should be self-sufficient but the UK isn't.
E.g. the higher the population, the more schools are needed so the number who become doctors, or fruit pickers, should also be higher resulting in the same proportion but it doesn't seem to work like that in the UK.
There are too few doctors and no fruit pickers.

There's a global shortage of doctors to the tune of two million according to the WHO, apparently we aren't the only country with an ageing population. As for fruit pickers, as any country advances, and education improves, surely this creates a situation where there are jobs at the lower end of the scale that the indigenous population aren't keen on, this really isn't a situation that's exclusive to the UK.

Before Covid the UK had full employment according to the government.
So it stands to reason, if everyone has a job then they are not likely to want leave that job to go and pick fruit.
