Hi looking for some advice. Currently an exposed gas mains box in the porch of our Reno. (No box covering it). Its been fine up until now as there’s a second door to block it from the outside l. Ideally we would like it moved to outside as we are getting a new front door so it will be exposed to rain etc. or at least get it covered with a box somehow?

Who do we contact in regards to this? There is conflicting information as to whether it’s our gas provider or British Gas etc.

Do you mean the gas meter is currently just sitting in your porch without any cover/box?

Depending on how far/complicated the move is your supplier may be able to do it, if not then it'll be down to the local network transporter - your location will determine who that is - if being moved externally then part of that work will be to locate it in a suitable case. Be prepared for a substantial bill. Check your suppliers website.

Once that's done then it'll be down to your local trusty gas safe registered bod to run a new gas pipe from the meter to where it needs to be.

If space is tight then a semi concealed meter box may be the answer to where to place the meter.

The company who own the network are responsible for moves so Transco or SGN or whoever depending on where you live. SGN have a website you can apply online and will give you a feel for the costs involved. 3 years ago we were looking at £840 to move ours outside and 3 metres. Surveyor did it foc as it was inaccessible and we are not as mobile as we used to be. Arrange a visit and borrow a granny for the day.

We’ve decided to keep it where it is so just need a box to cover it (I’ll add a picture for reference) would this still just be our supplier? :) thanks!

I would think a gse could get that closer to the wall by altering the bracket/gas pipe then you should be able to build a decent looking cupboard flush across with the pillar on the left
