My kitchen is at last nearly finished :D I am now installing lighting beneath the cabinets that will sit behind the skirting (or whatever it is called). The power is there and will operate from a normal 240v single socket. I have seen various strip stlye lights

What power lights should i buy, 6, 10, 14W???
How much space, if any, should i leave between the lights?

Any recommendations on fitting and where to buy are greatly appreciated.

Thanks,
Mike

They are fine for undercabinet lighting BUT don't put a plug on them it will look crap!!!! unless the plug is hidden away and fused down correctly!

Connect to a fused spur (or the lighting circuit) and fuse them down at 5amp

I bought 10w T4s, and they didn't give out adequate light. I now have 3 16w and one 10w (under a smaller single cab). That's on a 6m two-wall run, with of course none over the sink/cooker.

I wouldn't think that 6w would light up a gnat's elbow. Go for the 20w option, or at least 10w if you're fitting five of them.

Thanks for the advice. I will look at 10W to improve the light but it is more for effect than to light the kitchen.

I have run a cable (this will be behind the tiles) from the visible switch to beneath the cupboards. There is a trim/skirt on the cupboards so the lights and any connections will be hidden.

Your post suggests that i change the normal switch to a fused one. Is this neccessary for light units that run off 240v? Sorry if this is a silly question.
