About to put in a sub-main for my new extension, so I lifted some boards today. This is how it was done in those days apparently.
The ring final goes off and back at this point to the immersion heater switch.

I think I've got some work on my hands.

Quite normal that was.

A lot of people move in new homes with loose floorboards due to that.

They see a hole with the nail missing and replace it.

you often see scribbled on the board in pencil a sort of warning label

A customer of mine did that.

Unfortunatly there was a 6.0mm² cable on a 45A BS3036 fuse supplying the shower just below.

Nope

The worrying thing is, that cable was just like that with about 60mm of live and earth missing, and not much neutral left when I arrived.

The fuse had not gone, and the cable was still live

I have since upgraded the CU, so the cable is now all MCB and RCDed up :D

Infact, here is the CU which supplied the cable:

I can remember a call out a while ago.

I turned up, and this old chap was all sweaty and you could see he was upset.

The main RCD of a TT install had tripped, and would not stay in.

Asked a little history, and turned out the chap was there with a new battery drill he had bought, and was screwing down loose floor boards upstairs.

He managed to drill got knows how many cables! All in notches in the joists.

Turns out his daughter had just purchased the house, which she had lived in for a good few years, but had been renting. As soon as the sale went through, he decided to help her tart the place up!
