Hi

I am trying to paint some alcoves which are heavily gloss vanished. The wood is very ridged so sanding down is proving very difficult.

Is there a really good primer/undercoat that will cover the vanish and provide a good enough key to paint (with white satin wood) to.

This would save loads of hours sanding work.

Many Thanks

The undercoat will provide the key for the new paint no problem but the undercoat has to stick to the varnished surface. As this is highly shiny unles it is keyed properly by sanding etc the undercoat will come off in sheets and not adhere.

Use some green 60 grit paper and it will soon be smooth and ready for painting.
