I Have a 2 way switch with the terminals marked as numbers 1, 2 and 3:-

1 (with the writing "common" next to it)
2 (with the writing "way" next to it)
3 (on its own)

Does anyone know how this numbering translates the modern convention of COM, L1 and L2. Obviously 1 is COM.

Thanks.

Does it really matter which way round the other two are once you have com identified :?: , I'd presume 2 is L1 and 3 is L2 though

The switch wouldn't happen to be made by crabtree would it?

If so:

1 = Common
2 = L1
3 = L2

That would be my second question. What is the consequence of L1 and L2 being mixed up? Does it make any difference?

Just changes which way the switch operates, if you are using it as single way, on and off are reversed, if two way, if setting the switches the same usually puts the lights off, and different from one another puts them on for example, same would become on and different off, or vice versa if they got swapped

Ok, thanks for your replies.

Don't know if it's a crabtree as I don't have it to hand.
