I've never used UniBond PVA but am somewhat dubious about their claim to be waterproof, I can't see how it can be waterproof when it says it is water miscible on the destructions!!

Has anyone used this stuff? Surely a water based product can't be waterproof??

There are water-based paints and varnishes, which are waterproof.

Anyway, it is a bit misleading to describe this as waterproof, it's more like 'water resistant'. It only achieves this quality when used with cement (and and) though, by lining pores in the mix to repel moisture.

TBH, I don't think it has any real value over standard PVA.

I fixed a gate slat with Wickes waterproof PVA nearly 20 years ago - still fixed good as new, out in the rain all day. Snow etc.

I used the Wickes stuff today for plastering in a bathroom. It's good stuff.

Water might just be the carrier of molecules that bond together as water leaves, wih a waterproof result. Alternatively, in things like cement, the water catalyses and enables a crystallization reaction that leaves behind a waterproof lattice.. So it's not necessary following that something water based cannot be water proof.. Heck, I reckon I could get a bowl made entirely of ice to hold water ;)
