Hi, I recently bought a new desk, which I have to take an inch off in lenth. The top part of the desk has 7 fixings in drill holes. It's made out of particle board if that helps at all...

The problem is, I need to relocate 2 of these holes, and the fixings are impossible to remove. I'm looking for some replacements online, but I have no idea at all what they're called, as the instructions included had no words at all!

They look like little plastic cogs about 8mm in diameter, except they have a thread in the middle, that the anchors are screwed into.

Does anyone have any idea what these are called?
Also if anyone knows where I can buy them it would help too.

I've enclosed 2 pictures. Not sure if they'll show up though. I'm a bit of a newbie here!

Thanks a lot,
Sykotix

The cogs that you refer to are in fact gripping splines, that hold the blind nut in place once they are whacked in.
I've never seen these anywhere either, but you could achieve the same thing by choosing a nut of the correct thread, drilling a blind hole just slightly smaller than its across point size, and tapping it in after coating it with Araldite or similar. Mind you, I'd have a trial run on a piece of scrap timber first!

Ok, I haven't managed to find the exact same insert that I was looking for, but I've managed to find a screw-in type that would give a more secure fit.
Obviously I'll test it on some scrap wood first (There's 20 in a pacK!).
Thanks for all your help, you've all been great!

You can remove existing, screw in a suitable small bolt and use a claw hammer to lever out.
