the upstairs and downstairs ringmains are on the same mcb. the mcb IS rcd but is this safe/right to have to ringmains on the same fuse ?? because in my last house the upstairs and downstairs were seperate. but then again this house is quite old and is quite old fittings(i found one of the old old toggle switches the other day along with its wooden back plate ) the consumer unit is a metal clad one is this also safe/right??
How many wires going into the mcb? Probably you have only one ring final for the whole house. Not unusual in many houses.
These days its more usual to have a ring for the kitchen and another for the rest.
In the old days there was only a kettle in the kitchen and washing machines, dishwashers and tumble dryers weren't invented.
No idea on the rest. Post a photo of your consumer unit. Metal ones are usually OK unless you have a TT installation. Show us what you've got!!
