uPVC or Composite Doors

Hi Guys,

Given the choice of a uPVC or a Composite door which is best.

Not fond of either but composite ones look a heck of a lot better.
 
the solid hardwood one of course

why are you restricting yourself?

Interesting post....

I assumed, perhaps wrongly, that uPVC doors were better as they generally reduce draughts.

Composite doors, I assumed, had the beneits of the uPVC in terms of reduced draughts, but, as already mentioned, look a lot better.
 
yes, a plastic door will keep the draughts out

but not the burglar.

the locking mechanism will also go wrong a hundred times more often than the lock on a wooden door, and be a hundred times more difficult and expensive to have repaired.

It will also be more expensive than a better hardwood door.

No contest IMO

Have a browse through //www.diynot.com/forums/viewforum.php?f=18 and see if you can detect a pattern.

The silicone rubber P-strips or E-strips are very good.

If you buy a new door frame as well it should come with a weatherstrip that goes into a slot round the frame.

If the frame and door are very old they might be warped or loose and you can address this.

If you do want a door curtain, get a Portiere Rod which pivots up and away when you open the door.
