I have a window that fails to close properly and was wondering if anyone here knew what could be causing it? When open, it seems to be in a normal position. When closed, the left side (especially the top part) doesn't sit flush with the rest of the frame. The right side is pretty much ok.

I'll add some photos. In the first one, you can see it's not tight against the frame, there's a significant gap.

The hinge has gone. They're cheap to buy and fairly easy to replace with the tools and know how, they're often riveted on but could be screwed in.

Post a pic of the hinge on that side please.

That’s an old window you can tell as it’s externally beaded. It could be a number of issues it’s been in that house a long time. If you can photo the hinge system that’s a start. Hope this helps.

Thanks for the replies.

Yeah the windows are pretty old and in need of changing really.

See attached photo. It's just a matter of replacing the hinge on that side?

Nice and easy for you, they're screwed in. You'll have to remove the window to replace and typically they come as a pair so you may as well change both whilst you're at it. 20-30 minute job tops.

An assistant will make it easier as the window needs supporting.

Measure hinge length and order from ebay

That’s a 20 year old + hinge, it’s twisted as well. Might help to push the hinge point in towards the frame otherwise good luck with finding a replacement.
