Hello newbie here.my husband has bought a van.w reg just somthing for work.turns out needed new diesel fuel pump.we bought used one.been fitted mechanic now says it needs coding.
Going cost a fortune.
Been told can either take it ford dealer get coded.
Or bypass immobiliser
Disconnect immobiliser if we did any of the last two options will this do the trick and have van running. Or anything else can do.please give me hope.

There should be an independent Ford mechanic in the area with the right tools to program/code the fuel pump, but the mechanic should have known this and sorted it out. Did he make you aware of it before he started the job?

Nope he never mentioned it needed coding.he said he fitted it,along with new cambelt and waterpump. Then rang and said it will need coding.he is a back street garage.would he have known this before fitting ?
Local ford dealer quoted over £100 for this.to be honest we bought van cheap.
Told was ok.2 weeks later had slight leak resulting being told about pump.
So spent even more.now this.

Does that pump not have the immobiiser attached to it? If so, it's normal practise to swop them over before fitting the donor pump.

you can probably find someone with the correct diagnostic equipment locally to do it for less than £100, i wouldnt even bother looking at bypassing the immobiliser etc as its opening a new can of worms.

Thankyou for the replys.the fella doing the work said he knew what he was doing clearly he hasnt he fitted it.and the other bits.now tells me this.ive been trying find someone local to code it no joy tho.

The coding isn't unique to Ford dealers - I have had one done at a firm specialising in Bosch equipment. Unfortunately its necessary to code new injectors too, but for the life of me I don't understand why.
John :)

So just spoke to the fella doing the work.he said the pump he took out had no immobiliser on it.as had been replaced before.the one that we bought has a immobilizer on it.hence needing coding.

Maybe, just maybe, its to encourage car owners to only use the manufacturers dealers.

Or it maybe that I am just a cynical old bug, ger!!

Injectors are coded due to the fine tollerances they are made to & the necessity of modern diesel engines to be injected with precise fuel quantities, each injector is slightly different so the code on a new injector has to be programmed to the ECU so the ECU can compensate for the amount of fuel each injector can deliver per given injection duration.

That help? :D
