US chandelier in the UK

I have a chandelier from the US which I hope to use in the UK.

It has 9 x CES12 (slightly smaller than E14) (Max wattage = 60W) bulbs... and I have managed to get 9 x CES12 25W with a 240V rating from within the UK.

However when I put it all together - nothing!

Do I have to rewire the chandelier too with British wire? The US chandelier has a cable but it seems that the two wires which make up it are slightly thicker than British wires and are not colour coded.

Hoping someone may be able to point me in the right direction...
