C, COM or COMMON are all the same. (just abbreviated)

The different coloured circles just indicate which terminals relate to an individual switch on the front.

Yes, put a connector on the spare wire.

The colours link the parts of each switch and show the diagram embossed on them.
There are no L2 terminals. It is three one-way switches.
There are just three L terminals (C on old switch) and their respective outputs.

Working does not mean it is safe or will remain working for long.

Can you confirm it has a plastic front and not a metal or metal coated plastic front.

If it is a counterfeit item then be prepared for problems.

A simple, and wise, thing for Bill to do would be to ask Legrand in the UK to at least confirm that they do make a switch like the one he bought.
