Using a Floor Sander on a Hallway?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!

Hi,

Im hiring a floor sander + edge sander. I understand that you sand across or at a 45 degree angle to the grain, however i have a long hallway to sand, which obviously cant be sanded at an an angle to the grain because of the shape of the hallway.

How do you sand down hallways??

the point off cross grain sanding it to level parralel boards
if you dont you risk the sander catching on the "step" between planks and making them deeper

how wide is your hall and is there any noticable stepps between boards[greater than 2mm]!!!
