I've got a Vaillant Ecotec Pro 28 boiler. I think its from 2007, but has been serviced every year since I've been at this house and get the impression from the engineer that services it that its doing ok. There have been a few replacement parts over that time, including the PCB board under a home emergency policy. Its coming up with an F32 fault.

There is some building work going on which means i've been out of the house a lot so and have often had the heating turned off (as in, only on a frost setting but not actively putting any warmth into the radiators). I've checked it fairly regularly though and there was no error until a couple of days ago, but I can't identify exactly when this fault triggered.

Because there have been various tradespeople doing stuff and I haven't been around to see it, I'm just trying to work out whether any of these things might have caused this fault, or equally if just topping up the system again or hitting the reset button is likely to resolve this. My Googling of what an F32 fault refers to suggests it is more to do with the components of the boiler itself.

- System had been drained down and refilled twice because a pipe got knicked and a radiator valve was loose.
- I got home and the fuse on the fuseboard that covers the boiler was off. Having turned the boiler back on, I can confirm the circuit isn't tripping so would seem like someone turned it off an didn't tell me. I don't know why.

Appreciate that no-one can diagnose this over the internet but any pointers would be appreciated - even if thats only to say that it just needs someone qualified to take a look. Its frustrating because the heating system has been messed around with a bit over the past few weeks even though the work thats been done isn't directly related to it. I feel like I could end up with a hefty bill to repair because something has happened, when that something may have been caused by some of this building work. Of course, maybe its just broken all by itself and its all a coincidence!

So I’ve just gone and tried it again, this time switching it off on the boiler itself first (rather than at the fuse switch, which is what had happened before) and then turning back on in order. No fault! Have left it on just manual heating for a bit whilst I pop out and fingers crossed it fine when I get back, in which case I will just put it back onto the low level auto setting.

Is it plausible that it could just have been a bit sensitive to the various interventions by the builders (and probably air in the system where it was drained down)? It does make me a bit uneasy that it’s a gas appliance which was unhappy enough to flag a fault, even if it now seems to be ok. Annual service is booked in for a couple of weeks anyway.

Extremely doubtful, as I said it’s a fan fault. Likelihood is that the fan speed is breaking down.

I have come across a couple of random fault codes with our Vaillant boiler in the 10 years we have had ours . I would not worry about them if a reset solves them unless it happens more than once or twice.
