Anyone care to comment on the pro's and cons of these 2 combi boiler's that I've been recommended?

Both are good quality, the Vaillant has a stainless steel heat exchanger which is better than the aluminum on the WB. WB warranty however is 3 yrs (5 if fitted by an approved installer) whereas the Vaillant has two as standard. Imho it's similar to a choice between bmw and mercedes, most ppl prefer one or the other. Vaillant would be my choice.

in terms of performance and reliability both boilers are very similar. Therefore if this is a comparison of 2 qoutes from 2 different installers then I would suggest you make your decision based on the installer not the boiler.

the downside of vailant is that they completely lost the plot when it comes to after sales, whereas worcester is outstanding.
if you need to call them, you are likely to wait half an hour to an hour for vailant and about one minute for worcester.

Ecotec Pro only comes with a 1 year warranty out of the box.

Ecotec Plus has the 2 year warranty, extended if you have an installer in your area who can offer an extended warranty.

Personally I wouldn't fit either, but go for the Ecotec Plus 831

Also depends on the mains water in your area. Stainless doesn't like acidic water and Aluminium detests alkaline-WB stipulates no more than 8.6 PH-so if your installer doesn't inhibit the system properly or clean it properly then you will lose the HEX regardless of the material it's made from

Concur with Ben re WB after sales and customer service which is second to none, IMO.

Called thier helpline today at 1.30PM and they answered within seconds and I was straight through to a Tech who sorted me out within about two minutes.

Thanks for the response, much appreciated. I have another couple of quotes to come in and no doubt questions to ask if alternative models are suggested. BTW was talking to the local plumbers merchant this morning and he was recommending Sime combi's, never heard of these and Broag

Thanks re Sime, just reviewed a few posts and there's a lot about leak problems with Sime's. Any more suggestions/recommendations on similar combi's to the Vaillant and Worcester?

Broag are very good for their price and the market they are aimed at, but the quality is not as good as the Vaillant 831.

Was a time I would of said go with the WB, but I started fitting Vaillants, of which I like.

WB cdi is a very good boiler
Vaillant EcoTec plus is a very good boiler

Then there is also the Potterton Promax, again a good boiler.

Have your installer check mains pressure and flowrate at time of quoting, don't prompt them to do it, just see which one does then they are the one to go with

clf-gas all depends where he lives ,yeah terraced houses with shared services lead services etc check
But if its like were i live there is not a single shared service and every house has perfect pressure etc and the guy ay know without checking.

As a customer i would be put off by being told a company has an excellent back up service as this means they must breakdown often enough for people to know this.

Avoid sime and ideal. You pay for what you get. . . . . .

Well, erm, Yeah. I know my area but I check every one and have found differences. Still it shows the installer knows what he's doing and not just throwing a boiler on the wall to make good profit.
You know what I mean, the difference between an installer and a cowboy
