If you're having to make the diverter microswitches yourself then the valve can't be pulling inwards fully. This will be due to air or a blockage in the small copper capillary tubes.
There's also a pump differential valve which is situated on the gas valve and operates using the same principle as the diverter valve. If this isn't has air in it too it won't fire the main burner.
