Hi guys,
With reference to safety harness for ladder heights- trees etc.

Anyone know why vat is charged on some safety wear, and not on others.
I just can't fathom out why a professional builder on jobsworth can purchase most safety wear less vat and I as an individual- still as vulnerable- must pay up and shut up. It sucks donnit?
I can buy a bump hat less vat, and I can buy a pair of toe-tector boots.
Is this the start and finish of it all?

Any comments welcomed with thanks.?

Are you just looking at the prices for trade and none-trade? Trade prices normally state ex VAT, none-trade prices including VAT.
The invoice a trader receives contains the VAT amount too, but if the trader is VAT registered he/she can claim it back.

Or did I miss the point?

Thanks WoodYouLike,
Yes it slipped my memory, about the tax terms- you are right of course.

So what I really mean, though firstly I must apologise for a late reply- I was really tied up with jobs- my diy is not usually 3 at a time :( .
I would like to know why a few safety items are vat free and others not.
Surely all wear of this type should senseably be free of tax.

If a person has an accident putting him onto state assistance it would cost more than this bl---- tax is worth- is that logical--?

Thanks in advance- in case the jobs pile up again :)
