What cracks me up is, this frozen veggie stuff in the supermarkets that's made to look and taste like meat,,, right down to the texture. Why do that? I mean , if they gave up meat, then just give them nut cutlets and lettuce.
Anyway, I know a couple of vegetarians, who have to take vitamin supplements because they just don't get enough from their diet. Can't be right can it?

If veggies are not getting enough vitamins from their diet, they're doing something SERIOUSLY wrong.

I mean, let's face it. It's an all-inclusive diet, but without meat.

Excluding meat does not mean depriving yourself of vitamins.

There are many sources of protein without including animals.

Nuts and seeds.

Quorn.

Eggs.

Cheese.

Beans, lentils, etc..

Some green veg are high in iron, even better on a per calorie basis than meat.

There is absolutely no reason why a vegetarian cannot sustain themselves properly.

Just wait till the 22nd century and we're all eating Solyent Green.

And we are omnivores we need both

Nope. You'll survive without meat.

And dairy products, vegan for 12 years... My child is 16 months old and has never eaten meat of dairy also. He well above average hight and weight and developing very well.

All diets are healthy or bad depending on how you eat.

Only thing a vegan needs to look out for is vB12.

Wy are you a veggie? health? animal welfare? or other?

I was a veggie for a number of years...as i hate animal cruelty... but as you get older you realise you're out of this tv show within 70 years or so.... and animals don't really matter to your life... after all lions kill animals everyday !!! and will continue to do so way after you're rotting in the gound !!!

Why don't animals matter?

it depends on what level you direct your question. My comment was animals don't really matter... to our lives.... so i'm thinking we shouldn't mourn the death of every animal we come across... whereas we might with humans... tricky subject for a forum... but there's a selfishness to being alive, and animals unfortuanetly come second.

Although i certainly don't condone killing, or hurting or even distressing animals for the fun of humans...

Animals play a vital role and they deserve to live free from suffering at our hands. Yes a lion will kill and eat other animals but I can't see how you can compare wild animals to domestics used in say the food industry. I investigated some very poor conditions animals are kept in and I think we all should take a stand to change life for these animals. It would be better if we didn't use them and I campaign to end animal use period.

I can think of many situations where people would save their pet over a human.

As I said previously there are a few that try and ram their ideas down others throats when it comes to veggies, your one I believe.
Just accept not all want to live such a narrow life, meat is there to be eaten. Your suposed to eat meat, look at your teeth.

Not according to that link I posted. As peap quite correctly states the only vitimin you'll be short on by avoiding meat is b12 which can be sourced by other means.
I'm not a vegetarian but I keep my meat consumption to a minimum as I've seen some dodgy practises at first hand carried out involving its production.

This is true. Less people would be starving in the world if meat production was halted and the land turned over to crop production.

Never ram anything down anyones throat when it comes to diet but I do join in on forums when I see a discussion about the subject.

We are not meant to eat meat but we can eat little amounts. Look at your digestive system....

But say this I am not interested in what we are meant to eat, it's an ethical issue for me. We can live happy, healthy and prodctive lives without eating meat....

Not had meat for over 20 years not a problem,
Ask me to give up biscuits that would be a problem

Yes but people don't realise that the vast majority of grains grown go to cattle/animal feed not humans not to mention the land that is used for grazing that could be freed up to grow crops.

Cattle are also one of the biggest contributers to global warming.
